Afternoon tea at Biscuiteers, Clapham Junction

Afternoon tea is one of those terribly British things to indulge in, everyone knows that pretty much anything can be fixed with a cuppa and a piece of cake, but when family came to visit me, I wanted to show them not just an English afternoon tea but a London one!

And so I found the Biscuiteer’s London afternoon tea.  I’d first been introduced to the Biscuiteers when I received a whole box of their delicately decorated biscuits in the shape of little ducks with the sprog’s name iced on so I already knew that I liked their biscuits and when I saw the whole tea dedicated to those, I was sold!

The cafe is located off Northcote Road and it’s a really easy walk from Clapham Junction and you find yourself in a very cute cafe with plenty of room to park the buggy and explore the stands of cake and biscuits!

Since we’ve already pre-ordered and paid for the afternoon tea, all that remains is for us to sit down and tuck in! I like that we don’t have to stick to tea and any drink you want is all included so while I opt for the traditional tea, my cousin opts to go rogue and has a milkshake.

The sandwiches here are classic and chunky rather than of the dainty variety and they are delicious.  There’s smoked salmon with a healthy dollop of cream cheese and cucumber and chive with some more cream cheese and it’s a sign of a good sandwich when you actually argue over the last smoked salmon one!

We don’t argue for long though because there’s scones, fairy cakes and of course all those gorgeously iced biscuits to munch on.  I explain the whole cream versus jam thing to my cousin and even as I’m explaining, I realise how ridiculous I sound because let’s be honest, it makes no sense whatsoever.  Cream or jam, it all tastes good any which way it’s dolloped on!

We have iced biscuits, Battenburg cake, fairy cakes, macarons and rich gooey brownies but don’t worry, if you can’t finish it all (And I admit, we don’t manage to) they pack it up for you to surprise hubby with!

Even with full tummies, we can’t help but ooh and aah at all the gorgeous iced biscuits dotted all over the shop.  I pretty much want to buy all of them but since I’ve already got a bagful of goodies to take home, I resist.  But don’t be surprised if you receive Biscuiteers bikkies from me as gifts, the range is just too cute!

They even run icing cafes and I can’t decide if I want to do those or not, on one hand it would be nice to recreate those beautiful biscuits but on the other hand.. why not just enjoy them from the professionals?

Biscuiteers is located on 13 Northcote Rd, London SW11 1NG, walking distance from Clapham Junction.  Biscuiteers require you to book and pay in advance for the tea.

  1. I really, really want to do one of their classes but as my icing skills are atrocious, I might opt for the afternoon tea… leave it to the experts eh?!
