My first taste of Aperol happened in Venice, extremely appropriate given Aperol’s Italian heritage. Topped with soda and gazing out on Venice’s intricate, windy cobbled streets, this bright drink has the power to transport me right back.
I’ve always viewed this as a bit of a summer drink though and Aperol are on a mission to change that and make Aperol a year-round tipple and so they’ve invited us to the Cocktail Trading Co to get a crash course in how to make this drink and show us just how easy drinking it is year round.
We immediately get hands on, it’s a remarkably easy recipe to follow, all about 1, 2, 3. 3 parts Prosecco or anything really really fizzy, 2 parts Aperol and 1 part soda, all layered on top of a lot of ice. Garnish with a twist and then you’re done.
Simple right? You can even make this up in batches and serve it as punch, which I think would work really well for the upcoming festive season and what could be more cheerful than this bright colourful drink as the nights get longer and the days get colder?
The Cocktail Trading Co is the perfect spot to cosy up with one of these, in the hour we spent at the bar learning our trade, I’m incredibly impressed by the detailed attention they give on how to blend up flavours and what can be mixed and matched with what!
We’re supposed to be having a little competition to invent our own Aperol flavoured cocktail, but it turns out that creativity isn’t really our strong point so we stick with the classics. It was pouring cats and dogs as we left the warmth of the bar but I was feeling all bubbly and happy, truly showing just how cheering a nice glass of Aperol Spritz can be…. but perhaps that was the booze talking!
Disclosure: I was invited to learn all about Aperol Spritz and received a bottle of Aperol and a bottle of fizz to try it out myself at home!
