Situated right smack in Bermondsey Square, neighbouring not only uber trendy Maltby St market but also Bermondsey St, home to a dizzying array of bars & restaurants including the fabulous Pizarro, sampled only the week before.
Today – sitting in sheltered Bermondsey Square, we are here for Brunch. The restaurant is surprisingly empty, despite its popular setting & the sun making a pleasant summery appearance.
The fairly standard Breakfast menu has a light touch mediterranean twist – the full breakfast comes with cannellini beans, pancakes come in a Moroccan Berber twist and a frying pan of eggs & chorizo hits the menu.
Clearly family is feeling quite traditional today – 2 full breakfasts, French toast, egg & bacon Bap & Eggs Royale are on the order list today.
The full breakfast is hearty fare and neither Dad nor Sis is able to finish.. Mum dubs her Eggs Royale scrumptious and Husband’s deceptively simple Egg & Bacon Bap causes much food envy.
For my part though, the French toast was a hit. I was initially surprised to find no condiments of syrup were on offer but after that first bite, I saw why! Doused in sugary cinnamon it needed no syrupy acrouments to make it perfect.
Previous experiences at Del Aziz have been slow and unsatisfactory, but it was a good day and the food was prompt and hot. I have no greater expectations than that for my most important meal of the day.
